The tour of the “Lucas Cranach the Younger – Discovery of a Master“ exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of the life and work of Lucas Cranach the Younger. Discover Lucas Cranach the Younger as a painter of Reformation altars and epitaphs and as an outstanding portraitist and draughtsman. The exhibition features 150 masterpieces from German and international collections.

TOWN CHURCH OF ST. MARY

CRANACH’S CHURCH

For groups of a maximum of 30 persons.

The Town Church of St. Mary is home to numerous original paintings by Lucas Cranach the Younger, including the famous Reformation Altar, on which Lucas Cranach the Younger worked together with his father. The works are regarded as important documents of the history of the Reformation and were extensively restored for the exhibition. Experience these original works on a guided tour of their original location.

CRANACH HOUSE

WORLD OF CRANACH

For groups between 10 and 25 persons.

The Cranachs painted portraits of the electors and reformers, created altarpieces, and drew sketches of Venus, Eve and other archetypal heroines. The tour of the “World of Cranach” exhibition and the historic Cranach courtyards retraces the lives and artistic works of the Cranach family and offers a unique view of the Renaissance courtyards.

GOTHIC HOUSE

CRANACH IN THE GOTHIC HOUSE IN WÖRLITZ

For groups up to 15 persons

Beginning in 1784, Duke Franz of Anhalt-Dessau began collecting paintings by old German masters, including more than 30 works by the Cranachs. In the Gothic House, the collection is presented for the first time in a reconstruction of the original hanging. The tour offers insight into the artistic and historical aspects of the collection as well as the Duke’s political and religious aims.

JOHANNBAU
CRANACH IN ANHALT

For groups up to 25 persons

The tour of the “Cranach in Anhalt” exhibition invites you to explore the famous Dessau “Fürstenaltar” (Prince’s Altar) by Lucas Cranach the Elder as well as masterpieces of old German painting and graphics from the Anhaltinian Art Gallery. It also features valuable selections from the inventory of the Anhaltinian National Library, and important items on loan from other German museums.

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF CRANACH IN DESSAU

Visit the “Cranach in Anhalt” exhibition in the Johannbau, the Church of St. Mary and the Johanniskirche in Dessau. The exhibition includes important masterpieces such as the Dessau “Fürstenaltar” (Prince’s Altar) by Lucas Cranach the Elder from the collection of the Anhaltinian Art Gallery Dessau, and the “Dessau Abendmahltafel” (“Dessau Last Supper Panel”) in the Johanniskirche, by Lucas Cranach the Younger.
